Established in 2017, Olicana Music provides premium guitar lessons in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. What ever your age I believe that anyone can learn to play a musical instrument. Therefore my teaching style is relaxed and friendly, directed towards helping you achieve your musical goals.
I provide one to one guitar lessons in my students home with each lesson uniquely tailored to your needs and goals. My lessons are structured so that you are working on material that is in-line with what you want to achieve, in addition to subjects that will help supplement your objectives as a musician.
I accept students of all ages and abilities. Whether you want to learn your favourite songs, complete grades, or write your own music, I will be able to help you achieve those goals.
I have an enhanced DBS check, and am a member of the Musicians Union. For those who want to study for grades I typically I work with the Trinity College London Syllabuses, however I am happy to use whatever system suits you needs best.
How long would you like? Normally a half hour lesson is appropriate for younger students. For older and more advanced students an hour is typical. I have given longer guitar lessons to cover specific topics and coach students in a band or jam session.
I charge £30 for an hour lesson, or £15 for half an hour. If you pay for lessons in blocks of ten I offer a 10% discount.
I travel to my students homes to teach. This means you can have your guitar lesson from the comfort of your own home.
I am based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. My catchment area covers the Wharfe Valley from Addingham to Menston. If you are outside this area feel free to get in touch. Under certain circumstances we might still be able to arrange a lesson.
I teach Monday to Friday between 9AM and 8PM. Please get in touch for my specific availability. Unfortunately I am not able to offer lessons at the weekend.
Whether you want to learn Classical, Rock, Fingerstyle, or Speed Metal. If there is a guitar involved, I teach it. All styles of guitar playing are rooted in the same foundational skills. Beyond that it is a case of learning the language of the genre. I back all of this up with music theory only when necessary, or if the student is interested.
However there is no obligation for us to use a pre-designed syllabus. I have many students who I have designed custom syllabuses for. It depends on your goals, how you like to learn, and what kind of music you like. I make a point of ensuring that we learn the music that students wants to learn, so that you will want to pick up the guitar and play!
No, but it does depend on the style of guitar playing you want to learn. Beginners can learn on any kind of guitar, however if you want to learn Rock and Pop music you will need to consider upgrading to an electric guitar as you progress.
In our first lesson I will hand out a sheet detailing the terms and conditions I work by. Most importantly I have a 24hr cancellation policy whereby I charge for a lesson if 24hrs notice of cancellation has not been given. If you would like to read my terms and conditions in advance you can find them here
